The Hawley F140
is a 14 metre super fast, style machine, designed for optimum sailing in anything up to 20- 25 knots of air, preferably in flat water or steady state sea.
Key design features include Exo-scooped self-draining cockpit, Reverse Bow, Canting Keel, Batwings and sting-ray hull profile to provide all the alluring attributes of a super car.
I’m offering the opportunity to purchase the right to build from the plans, a Hawley F140, created by a team of world renowned marine experts with extensive design and engineering experience in design programmes for Americas Cup Class yachts, Super yachts, and Volvo 70’s amongst a host of others.
Your liaison will be concept creator, Andrew Hawley, who has engaged a team that includes Kevin Dibley of Dibley Marine (design development and marine architecture – http://www.dibleymarine.com/), High Modulus (structural engineering - http://www.high-modulus.com/ - structural engineers to Emirates Team New Zealand), Applied Engineering Services Limited (Principal: Chris Mitchell - rig design and engineering – 2007 member of rig design team for Emirates Team New Zealand) and Weta Workshop (http://www.wetaworkshop.co.nz - 2 metre miniature yacht replica – Weta were special effects wizards behind movies such as Lord of The Rings, King Kong, Master And Commander )
Obviously I’d love to be able to complete the design phase of this project and build the yacht myself, but a yacht of this size and performance pedigree requires an elite team of experienced designers to ensure resolve the design is both ultra fast and fast – hence the team above has been assembled.
What you’re buying
This auction is for the use of the complete design and engineering plans and specifications to be developed for the Hawley F140, so that you can build the yacht/s at your preferred boat builder.
This auction is for the use of these plans. All copyright and intellectual property in the design, plans and specifications remains with Andrew Hawley at all times, however Andrew Hawley is happy to negotiate transfer of this IP to the buyer in a separate agreement outside of this auction, provided a royalty of 15% of the total design fee is awarded to Andrew Hawley for every additional Hawley F140 built.
If you’re successful in your bid and build the yacht, but don’t want to transfer the IP into your name, Andrew Hawley will enter into an contractual arrangement with you so that you receive a 15% commission on every additional Hawley F140 built (excluding your own one).
This auction also includes one non-functional 2 metre scale model of the Hawley F140 crafted by Oscar winning special effects company Weta Workshop.
The buyer’s contractual relationship will be solely with Andrew Hawley, who will liase with key team members. The buyer acknowledges that the deliverables set out below will be provided to the buyer in accordance with timeframes to be discussed and have not yet been completed.

The miniature yacht will be a 3 dimensional maquette not a working prototype.
It will be beautifully resolved to a high finish but will not have working componentary.
Structure of Design Delivery
Designs and specifications are based on the 3D models designed by Andrew Hawley, however the design and engineering specification stages will mean the concept is refined and potentially modified (if required) to ensure the final design delivers a fast, safe and functional high performance yacht.
Buyer and/or preferred boat builder input may be required during this design specification and refinement phase to select preferred construction materials.
Andrew Hawley will liaise with buyer if input is required.
Payment
Full payment is required for design specifications and engineering to commence.
Full payment will need to be transferred into a New Zealand bank account designated by Andrew Hawley, who will acknowledge receipt of payment with a delivery schedule of timings (estimated at time of purchase transaction is completed – speed of delivery depends on supplier workloads at time of purchase).
Delivery Time of Design
To be confirmed on receipt of full payment. Subject to resource availability at time of payment, but a speedy delivery time would be anticipated.
Format of Deliverables
Design Plans and specifications will be provided to buyer in digital format (CAD or PDF) along with structural engineering details.
Structural engineering deliverables will be provided to successful bidder as A1 engineering drawings which would be provided electronically in AutoCad format. These would be sent to successful buyer via email, but can be supplied in hard-copy format if requested (however this additional cost - $50 NZD per sheet – would need to be met by buyer)
2 metre miniature yacht will be available for buyer pickup from Weta Workshop, Wellington, New Zealand upon completion.

Andrew Hawley (Initial Concept Design and project lead):
Andrew Hawley, a strategic creative in the advertising industry, and concept designer, has an extensive background in web, mobile and youth marketing - and a passion for yachts.
He co-founded one of New Zealand's leading interactive web and mobility agencies in 1999 and helped establish what is now a global ISP, as well as an Asia-Pacific based mobile development firm. Andrew also has a keen interest in online entertainment, earning a finalist at the NZ Microsoft/Vodafone Kiwi Startup emerging technology awards for a web enabled telemetry control game and commercial application concept.
In the advertising industry he’s been recognised with 2 Golds & 2 Silvers at the New Zealand RSVPs, two Silvers at the Caples Awards in New York, a winner in several categories at the Asia Pacific Future Marketing Awards, and a couple of finalists at the Cannes Advertising Festival in France.
Currently employed by his own firm TOUCH/CAST NEXT as Joint Creative Director for clients such as multi Oscar winning SFX company, Weta Workshop, New Zealand’s largest telco Telecom NZ, Andrew works on developing his passion for yachts and yacht design in his ‘spare’ time.
